I found this hostel in the lonely planet and decided to give it a go.
I'm really glad that I did. The dorms are quite cheap 3600Ft or 14 Euros. It is located on the second floor of an old residential building so it is definitely not for those that want a party hostel. Instead it's a quiet and relaxing place to rest while you explore Budapest.
The rooms are large and have high ceilings which help keep the place cool during the summer as they don't have air-conditioning, but that wasn't a problem while I was here.
The best thing about this place has to be the staff. I have rarely found a place where the staff were as helpful and obliging as this place.
They have a wealth of local knowledge and they all speak fluent english... though to different degrees.
There are 2 drawback however. The first is that while there are lockers in the dorms they do not have locks on them, although there is a safe at reception if you want to leave your passport and excess money.
The other is that in the summer you have to keep the windows open and it gets noisy from traffic, and road works which start pretty early...as at 6:30-7:00 in the morning. So those that want a sleep in had better bring earplugs.
I would definitly recommend this place for anyone who is coming to Budapest on a budget.

Okay guys you've read the competitions blurb, so why choose the Red Bus Hostel...? Our rating's not the highest, our staff's not the hippest and our wall's aren't the funkiest. On the plus side we are the cleanest, safest and one of the most established hostels in Budapest ( and in this business that's saying something!) The hostel is situated in the absolute heart of the City, in a beautiful typically Budapest courtyard building. It's within easy walking distance of all the main sights. The staff are all l...(see more)
