Bit disappointing...but fun all the same! Feb 11, 2012
Bit disappointed as we drove for hours thinking it was a proper steam railway, but it was a small miniature railway that went between the two. There are some lovely places on the way, and you can get on and off at different stops, if you buy the right ticket. We went from one end to the other, stopped for a cuppa, then headed back. It was a nice ride out, but still would've preferred a big steam train.

spectacular small steam railway Aug 23, 2008
After having a small gauge railway near my home and my parents beeing ex-railway employee, I like railways.

And this small gauge steam railway was fascinating.

We met everyone: families with kids of all age, seniors, walker, camper, ect.

This small railway connects Ravenglass and Dalegarth. If you wanna just have a cool day with your kids or going to hike to Englands highest mountain, take the Ol' Ratty.

The best feature, next to the trains (with the world oldest still working small gauge steam locomotive, is the signal box next to the bridge, where you can take a look how the signals and switches are operated.

My father, an retired signal box worker, really loved it and was reminded of old times. One of the younger guys working there even spoke german and tried to explain. It was so cool.

We took this train more than three times and discoverd a lot of things. Be sure to take a look aroudn the different stations.

Irton Road - there is a pig farm

Muncaster Mill - unfortunaly the mill is closed and a private house now

The Green - there's a camping site and starting point of some beutiful hikes

Dalegarth - walk a little bit around towards Boot and you can visit an old corn mill, still working as a museum. And the tation itself serves very good food.
