Rancho Bernardo Inn San Diego Reviews
Relaxing resort with plenty of ambiance Jan 28, 2012
I stayed at the Rancho Bernardo Inn for a week while attending a conference being held on the grounds there. I should start by saying this is not a place to stay while seeing the sights of San Diego as it is a bit far away from the city center. You definitely need a car to reach this place from the airport, which is about a 30 minute drive. With this said, Rancho Bernardo is a Resort with a golf course, relaxing spa, swimming pools, garden spots, walking paths, fountains and fireplaces, as well as a variety of restaurants to dine in. This is the kind of place you come to relax, not for tourism.
The grounds at Rancho Bernardo are absolutely gorgeous and it is quite a harmonious place to walk around. The golf course vistas with red roofed houses nestled in the hills beyond, the pleasant pathways lined with trees and well cultivated gardens and even some animal life a plenty with birds, squirrels and rabbits, make this place an oasis of sorts where you can relax and feel at peace. It takes a while to learn your way around, but this is part of the joy in discovering the layout of the grounds.
The main hotel building is rather like a ranch style itself, consisting of the main lobby with some sitting areas, as well as a bar, veranda restaurant and resort shop attached. A large breezeway with ample sofas, tables and seats leads through the resort to the hotel complexes. Many of the complexes consists of two or three floors with all the room balconies surrounding its own courtyard. It feels very private and secluded. The hotel rooms themselves are quite nice and could be described as Spanish mission style, especially with the wooden beam ceilings. They are nicely furnished and comfortable. Each room has a generous sized balcony overlooking a courtyard with trees, gardens, fountains and walking paths. There is Free wifi in the rooms and computers are free to use in the lobby building also.
The resort has a beautiful day spa, fitness center, large sized swimming pool, 18-hole golf course, as well as restaurants and bars to dine in and relax. The food is not spectacular, but very decent. The staff are very friendly, helpful and seem to enjoy and take pride in their jobs. I wouldn't qualify the place as super expensive, and just a little on the expensive side, but extremely good value for this kind of resort. I can think of plenty of good things to say about this place. As the motto goes here: "The way the world is supposed to be". I couldn't agree more - great experience!
I have published more photos here than I usually do for a review, but thought it worth while to capture the flavor and ambiance of this resort. I hope it shows through in my images presented here if you have time for an extended viewing.
