Ramayana Ballet - Javanese Dance Performance Jun 03, 2008
Ramayana ballet is an exquisite dance performance which offers a spectacular combination of Javanese arts such as dance, drama, music and culture on one stage to present the legend of Ramayana.
The complete story is presented in a series of Javanese dance movements done by graceful dancers accompanied by gamelan music. The story was told by a “sinden” or the female singers who describes the coarse of the story through Javanese songs with her distinctive high pitch voice.
The story which is presented in this performance is similar to the one carved on Prambanan temple. The story is summarized in four sections. Kidnapping of Shinta by Rahwana, Hanoman’s mission to Alengka to save Shinta, The death of Rahwana and The reunion of Rama and Shinta.
Besides dance, this performance offers an interesting fireball game as well. This is performed when Hanoman burnt the Alengka Kingdom owned by Rahwana. The colorful costumes and lights also added another remarkable feature to this performance.
The ballet is performed at Ramayana open stage in the complex of Prambanan Temple with it as the natural backdrop. Ticket fare for Ramayana Ballet at Ramayana Open Stage:
