The Ramada is an interesting choice. It is on the doorstep of the ExCel Exhibition Centre and a short walk to 2 DLR Stations. It also advertises itself as being the closest hotel to London City Airport. Having said that, it is also a little out of the way, but in a quiet and safe area. There is a good selection of restaurants and bars 700 meters away, just walk around to the other end of the ExCel Centre. If you don't want to walk, then it's the hotel's Stresa Italian Restaurant and the Oval Bar. Despite being right beside the London City airport, I did find it quiet. This was helped by having extra soundproofed windows, having a room at the back and it being night time. The only I problem I had was the sound of doors slamming at times. the door closers on the room doors make every door closing a wall rattling 'Bang!'. I have never understood why any hotel would use such a system. Other than that I found the hotel slightly dated, but good. My room had a desk, free WiFi, coffee/tea facility, Neutrogena toiletries, and ok bed, steam iron/board, and a very large TV. My sleep was ok, but the bed needed a new mattress. Probably guests haven't told the hotel, and I forgot to tell them myself. I found the staff helpful and polite. I also enjoyed my free newspapers in the lobby. All in all, it was ok. The hotel is more oriented towards work conferences with full board options for companies. If you are a solo traveller, you will want to be aware that this is in Zone 3 of the Tube/DLR network and it can take a while to get to central London. Also there can be bus replacement services on weekends if they are doing maintenance on the DLR. They do have a small ‘Fitness Room’, but you could go for a job in the nearby area. Parking is mostly chargeable (up to £2 an hour). Having said that there were plenty of spaces when I was there. The odd thing is they have a limited number of free (no charge) parking spaces, but the can NOT be booked in advance. First come, first serve. For businesses they offer half and full board delegate rates with all the expected services thrown in.

Very informative, detailed review again. Thanks! Looks good, even though a bit outside the centre.

Ramada Hotel, Excel Mar 13, 2013
The Ramada Hotel and Suites in London Docklands is a perfectly nice business box. It is not massively exciting, but it is clean and close to Excel, which is almost certainly the only reason you would stay there.

The staff are all friendly and smile, and that's the best thing about the Ramada. The rooms are far larger than you would expect in London for the price you pay, because the hotel is a long way from the centre. I had a view of the carpark, but some rooms have nice views out over the river. Everything was clean, and there was a shower and nice toiletries, but no bath.

Breakfast was lovely. I didn't use the restaurant in the evening, but it was surprisingly sensibly priced. There is a pleasant (if slightly pricey) hotel bar available too.

The only reason you would be this far east is for a conference. The Ramada is about a half hour by DLR from the city, and you have to change lines at least once from most locations. But if you are going to Excel, you only have to stroll across the car park to get to the venue.

Nice location if you are flying out of London City Airport Oct 01, 2011
I was staying 3 days in Ramada Hotel & Suites London Docklands because I was attending 3 days at a conference in the nearby conference center. I had a quite crazy program where I had to go back to Brussels during my stay and I had managed to get tickets to Antwerp instead of Brussels on my midway trip.

The Ramada Hotel & Suites London Docklands is situated quite close to the London City Airport, which I was very happy for since I had to fly back to Brussels for a meeting one of the 3 days I stayed at the hotel. When I arrived at the airport I was not aware about the location of the hotel so I took a taxi and it turned out to be a trip of only 6 pounds. It was possible to walk but I was still happy about the fact that I took a taxi because the weather was extremely good for being this time of the year. The hotel was a typical business hotel with a nice reception and a huge bar area as you enter.

The reception was efficient and I quickly got a room on the second floor; the room was nice and had all the things you expect from a business hotel room. There was a small desk and the Wi-Fi was free. There was a single chair in the corner and the bed turned out quite okay. The window was facing the landing area of the airport but the 3-layer window kept all the noise out. The bathroom was what one would expect and there were no positive surprises.

The bar at the premises is only nice to visit if you are staying with some friends; it is not cozy in any way. The breakfast is also okay with the traditional business hotel level, which is in the high end of a tourist hotel. The service was quite good; they staffs were service minded and knew what they were dealing with. Taxis should better be booked in advance if you need one in a hurry; they were not just running by the hotel.

The close proximity to the airport was one of the main features of the hotel but also the close location towards the conference area, which could be reach with the subway, which in this area of town actually is above ground. The price of a cab from the hotel to London Eye was approximately 45 pounds, and I found that price fair given the amount of traffic when I had to do the trip. The hotel is situated far from the inner city but a subway ride of 45 minutes will take you in to the city center.

I would not recommend this hotel for anyone staying in London as a tourist because it is too far away from anything that is remotely called touristic, but it is a fair hotel if your are visiting the conference and exhibition area of London Docklands or leaving early from London City Airport.
