The Rainforest Cafe is a fun themed restaurant filled with jungle plants and animals and salt water fish aquariums. Every half hour, it "storms" with thunder and lightning in the restaurant. There is plenty to look at while you wait for your food.

I met Irene from Travbuddy (irenchen) as she was passing through Minneapolis. I thought the Rainforest Cafe would be a fun place to eat lunch and we could walk around the Mall of America afterwards - killing two birds with one stone! You enter the restaurant through an aquarium arch and our table was next to a smaller aquarium filled with colorful fish. We were also near the (annoying) singing monkeys.

The bar has rain falling around the edges and the main dining area has singing monkeys every half hour or so, which is fun for kids to watch. A tree frog mascot greets kids. Sometimes they have live parrots out front with a trainer, but they didn't this day. Weekends, especially evenings, can get busy with a wait to get in, but there was plenty of room this visit.

The gift shop has lots of fun animal toys for kids and you can get a pretty good view of the restaurant without having to eat there. So I don't know what to say. If you've never been there, it is worth visiting and even worth eating inside, just don't expect outstanding food. But it is a fun dining experience that you can't get just anywhere. The Rainforest Cafe also has locations around the United States and overseas. Check out their website for a location near you. But really, a visit to the Mall of America isn't complete without stopping by the Rainforest Cafe (and the indoor amusement park).

I'm torn on giving this restaurant a rating. The atmosphere is great! Tons of fun! But the food is not that great. I've eaten there a few times and nothing I've had was outstanding. In fact, it was mediocre. Even the fish and chips weren't very tasty - and it's hard to mess that up! And the food is a little expensive ($10-$20) considering it is only average tasting. The food is not bad, just not really good. There is a variety of menu items from burgers and sandwiches to pizza, pasta and fish. The best thing on the menu is the volcano dessert. Yum! Best to share it with a friend!
