Cheap hostel with great community feel! Mar 18, 2011
I've stayed in this hostel for about two months before I finally moved into a share house. The reason why I stayed there that long is simply because it's a great place to be. I know so many people who came with the plans of staying just a few nights (I'm one of them) and ended up staying for weeks or more. The place looks a little shabby and can feel a little disorganized sometimes, but it only adds to the feeling that the guests basically run the hostel. The owner is usually in for only a few days a week, the rest of the time the receptionists, whom started out as guests of this place too, are in control.
Let me put it in this way: if what the Rainbow Lodge makes the Rainbow Lodge is purely the bricks in the walls, the beds in the rooms etc. then it wouldn't be much. However, the people in this place make the Lodge the Lodge! If you are a solo traveler, this is where you will meet people easily.
Location might be a bit further from Northbridge/CBD than some other hostels but there's a free bus (timeschedule is on the noticeboard) and even without bus it's just a 20-minute walk.
