Rafting on Pastaza River
Rafting on Pastaza River Banos Reviews
Baños rafting Jan 24, 2012
Baños is picturesque city sitting on the plateau in the shadow of the active volcano. Fast river called Pastaza River dug in the deep canyon and only two bridges connect the city with the other side. I believe that there is one more road going up the hill and around the volcano, but concerning the threat from the volcano I would like to have at least one more exit…
There are many rafting and adventure companies and price can be lowered easily if you go and shop around. I got really good deal for rafting with lunch for only 25$. Van took us some 10km down the river to avoid really dangerous areas and pass the dam. Many beautiful waterfalls drop from edges of the canyon making it almost like some other planet movie setting… I got in the boat with few more people and we went on rowing down the stream. One more rafting company had a boat in the same place so we all started together for extra protection and safety. River rapids on this spot were totally ok, some 3-4 level, but speed of the water shorten up our trip for at least 20 minutes. We stopped on the way to enjoy small waterfall, and then continued our trip towards Amazon jungle. Of course, we did not get all the way to the lowlands of the jungle, but you could see it in the horizon…
Food that we got for the lunch was totally ok, a bit small portions, but tasty and ready for us. I don’t remember the name of the rafting company, but they all send people to the same place that has the boat ready, so it does not matter much with whom you go.
