Rafael Hostel Yerevan Reviews
Cosy "Communal Flat" with Great Hosts May 31, 2012
This hostel has been positioned both as a hotel and hostel, however, it is certainly much more hostel-type.
It is located quite close to the centre (or, more precisely, in the centre), on the rather noisy street.
Both staff members are adorable and friendly - they try to help guests as much as possible. Basically, when you enter the place you are welcomed almost like a family member.
Though I ordered double room, when staff members saw that we are two girls (and, of course, they can not be a couple!) they were trying either to give us a dormitory room only for us or give us as a maximum two single beds pushed together. As a result, we did not get the pre-ordered double room, which actually was the nicest one in the hostel.
The nicest "territory" within the hostel was common space and kitchen, which guests can use whenever they want (free tea and coffee is included), however, when guests use that space but you plan to sleep in your room, you can hear almost everything what happens there because of strong acoustics.
Some things, which could be improved in the future - cleaning of rooms and common space have to be organised on a daily basis, otherwise some places, like common bathroom, seemed not cleaned for weeks; I think it could be nice to implement non-smoking policy in the common spaces as non-smokers can really suffer from permanent smoke there.
Have a chat with Azat and use his offer to bring you around Armenia. He is really a great guy and knows a lot about his country.
