Radu Voda Monastery Bucharest Reviews
Historical Beauty May 09, 2013
The Radu Voda Monastery is a must-see place in Bucharest. It is on the site of the oldest known settlement in Romania and is located right in the centre of the city, not far away from the Piața Unirii metro station. The monastery itself is a Romanian Orthodox monastery founded between 1568 and 1577.
When we arrived there Mass was in session and it was surreal listening to the chanting over the speakers whilst hoards of crowds packed into and around the building. Confession was being held outside and people were bent in silent prayer to their God. It made for beautiful viewing and really set the atmosphere for the place. The building itself is stunning and it's crazy to think that so much history has happened on this spot, dating right back to the Paleolithic period!
I didn't get to go inside due to Mass but I can only imagine how beautiful it must be if the outside is anything to go by. I highly recommend this place for a visit!
