Radisson Sas Royal Hotel Copenhagen Reviews

Feb 11, 2008
I have been rather disappointed with my stay at the Radisson Royal.

The hotel is one of the cheaper five star options in the city, so perhaps I'm expecting too much. However, I find it to be deficient in a number of areas, namely:

1) The rooms are far too hot, meaning that you have to sleep on top of the bed and run the air conditioning all night - this is supposed to be winter in Denmark; I shouldn't have to do this.

2) The beds are soft and squashy, being made up of a cheap (and seemingly quite old) mattress, and a mattress topper.

3) In order to avoid soaking the whole bathroom when you have a shower, you have to huddle at one end of the bath, which is quite difficult. The temperature on the shower varies frequently, and the tap is so sensitive that it's almost impossible to adjust to the right temperature.

4) The wardrobe is like some kind of puzzle to get into. I have a door in front of it, which blocks access, followed by double sliding doors which are so narrow you have to keep sliding them. And one of them's quite stiff so it's an effort to do this all the time.

I do have a handy little iron and trouser press combo, although my work colleague tells me that in his room this is located inside the wardrobe, and so rather hard to use.

The decor in the hotel looks like it hasn't changed since the 1960s. I think that it was supposed to be space-age when it was built, but it hasn't moved on.

The cafe downstairs does some passable food; the Caesar salad was disappointing, but the pork roll was OK for main. The place was pretty empty so service was swift and pretty good. There is a restaurant in the hotel which is supposed to be pretty good, but also quite expensive which is why I haven't tried it.

There's also a gym, which I haven't managed to go to yet. That's something this hotel has over the Sankt Petri, the other one I've stayed in in Copenhagen.

The staff on reception are numerous and always very friendly and helpful. This is definitely one of the best things about the hotel.

My room cost me Kr1700 a night, which is about US$330 at the moment.
