A lucky break in SLC Dec 19, 2009
We flew from Athens to New York... In New York we should have had plenty of time but ... the president was taking off and we sat on the run way for 2 hours waiting for him... apparently there is some rule about no other crafts when Air Force One is flying... (or something...)
When we landed in Salt Lake City our 2 hour lay over was gone and we had 10 minutes to get to the next Delta plane to Eureka. We raced to the counter (we carry on so we were ready to board.) .... and we watched the plane push away.... It was sad... there were about 35 of us standing and watching.... it seemed a shame to not wait just another 10 minutes to board us... The agents at the ticket counter handed out vouchers to everyone. We were content to wait at the back as a lot of people were very upset and being hostile to the agents.... It's always sad when that happens as it isn't their choice .... they probably would have held the plane if it was within their power.
When it was our turn David asked if they had a place with a king bed. The agent stared up at him (he's 6'6).... she said she wasn't sure and called the motel .... the motel said no king beds.... she tried two other places... none. Then on the last place she said.. They don't have one either but go there anyway... it's a nice place.... We took the room and the meal vouchers and thanked her for her extra efforts.
We rode the Raddison Inn bus to the motel... it was really a beautiful place. It had a huge lobby. We walked to the desk and the clerk said... You need a king...shall I upgrade you?... Yippee... David will fit the bed tonight...
We dropped our luggage at the room and freshened up before we went downstairs to the hotel restaurant. A break we hadn't wanted or needed but we decided to enjoy it... we both ordered prime rib and a got a bottle of red wine. We ate and chatted about our trip and how much fun it had been....
We went upstairs to the room again.... it was a fabulous room... it had a desk and two chairs as well as an easy chair in the corner. We couldn't see the view out the window but could see what we believed was the Morman Church with white spires. The bed was really comfortable. The bathroom was really clean with huge fluffy towels... We felt so fortunate to be there... We slept very well considering we were jet lagged and off on our time zone.....
The next morning we looked out the window and saw we were in the middle of a large complex. One of the biggest parking lots ever was outside... We took a few pictures and got onto the internet for a while... We went down to breakfast. We were surprised to see it was a made to order breakfast. It had a huge salad/fruit bar, cereals, breads, condiments, coffee, juices and yogurt. We didn't have a plane until late morning so we didn't have to rush through breakfast. I particularly liked the fresh raspberries.
We rode the van back to the airport. When we got there we saw the same people who had missed the plane with us the night before. Many of them were still very upset ... one college student was crying. We heard a few of them say their motel rooms were not good... Not good when they had already been so inconvenienced.. We felt bad for them as they were very stressed and inconvenienced.. .(we didn't say anything..)
We absolutely would go back to this beautiful motel. The personnel were charming, the rooms were clean & nice and the food was way above average. *** and I hit their lobby gift shop... it's definitely above average too...
***** the van driver said there are two raddison's and this one is the best....

No free airport shuttle or breakfast May 12, 2008
Another nice hotel in downtown SLC. Across the street from the Salt Palace Convention Center and the Energy Solutions Arena (Delta Center). A couple blocks from LDS Temple Square and Gateway Mall.
Free wireless internet. The front desk staff was not there when I tried to check in at night and I waited for about 10 miuntes to check in. Hot tub was very hot and pool and sauna were nice. No free breakfast or airport shuttle ($7). I got a discounted rate or $79 a night but normally about $130 I think.
