Travel lodge with a bit extra Apr 03, 2008

We booked the Radisson SAS as a last minute job as, we initially booked the travel lodge. The travel lodge was not an ideal choice for us first off, I have stayed in them plenty of times and don't like them. We booked the travel lodge as there was nowhere else to stay. It was the Easter weekend after all.

We were all set for the travel lodge when we contacted them about maybe having a early check in, which they could'nt do, which was OK. We then asked if we had somehwere to leave our bags for the monring before we checked in and also somewhere where we could leave or stuff for the afternoon. They told us it would be £10 per room. We were nott happy with this so we looked elsewhere.

We could not find any other hotel apart from the Hitlton and the Radisson. I could'nt afford the Hilton so the Radisson it was. I would have much prefered to find a quite bed and breakfast or a small hotel chain to feel much more at home.

The Radisson was around £100 for a double per night. I have stayed in hotels accross Europe for half the price and felt more at home. OK the place was clean and have everything you really needed, but it just felt like the travel lodge with a little bit extra.

The hotel foyet and bar looked very nice, there was seating in the reception area which looked cosy and a little different from what you expected. There was 1 computer at reception for free internet.

Another thing to note, which we were'nt told about was the fact you had to pay £50 per night deposit for use of the mini bar, I definatly wouldnt use the mini bar so told them we won't be doing so. We booked the room on the internet using parents credit card as neither of us carry credit cards, just debit cards. We intended to pay by cash and told them so when we booked. They wanted us to pay the deposit for the mini bar before hand , which we told them we don't have the money to (It would be coming out of our spends)! So they said they would take the mini bar out of our room, which we were happy for them to do so. In the end they didnt do it?!

Our room was clean, had what we needed. A room over our head after ecploring Belfast for the first time. We didnt really spend much time there. The bathroom was clean and did its job. there were a few door handles hanging loose, the carpet was a bit scruff looking. I would have maybe liked a bit more from the hotel seeing as I paid, in my opinion quite a large sum for the room. It didnt inlude breakfast which is another story!

We were set for our day trip to Giants Causeway (which was great!) on the saturday. We woke up early to go to breakfast, which we knew we hadnt paid for, when we asked how much we were told it would be £15 each for a cooked buffet breakfast.

There was lots of choice, andd you could go back as many times as you wanted, but the place was empty, and for a saturday morning on Easter weekend I would have maybe thought I would see at least a few more heads down there, We were the only ones having breakfast. I had to opt for having breakfast there as the bus was to pick us up at 930. We couldn't go anywhere else for breakfast as the nearest Cafe/Restaurant was 15 mins walk away.

Its's a bit secluded as well. I would like to have seen a few more place situated near the place, there was only a bank!

I don't think I would recommend staying at this place. Its very overpriced.
