Legend of Bengal Feb 26, 2013
Located very near the university and in an older part of Kolkata, this house is where Rabindranath Tagore lived and died. He was the first non-European to win a Nobel Prize in 1913, excelled in music and literature, studied and worked in London, and was an ardent admirer and contemporary of Mahatma Gandhi. This Bengali man is a local legend, and his former house serves as a fitting tribute and museum to him. The place has been changed very little, and you get the impression that you are visiting someone’s grand house throughout the building. The many family pictures and quotes were rather informative and let you identify with Tagore more closely. The entrance price is fairly cheap, photography isn’t allowed, and overall, the place is a relaxed visit. Definitely worth a visit.
