The most striking thing about Quito is its location. It’s sprawled across a long, skinny valley in the Andes, and so Quito is a long, skinny city. It´s only two or three miles wide but more than 20 long. At 9200 feet, it doesn´t feel like a valley; it feels like a slightly fla…

Los Angeles, CA to Quito, Ecuador. Stayed in Ecuador for one month going from Quito, to Tena/Misahualli in the Amazon, to Guayaquil on the coast, to Salinas, to the surf town of Montanita, back to Guayaquil to fly to the Galapagos Islands. We saw Isla Santa Cruz and Isla Isabella...truly an amazing place. Returned to Quito after 8 days in the Galapagos and then hopped a bus to Otavalo for the famous Saturday market. Ecuador is an amazingly diverse country and more people should travel there!

Since I am publishing these journals and photos many years after they actually took place (and before digital cameras which remember the date the photos were taken) I don't know when these pictures were taken. I travelled for a month In South America, went to Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador. During that month, I visited many places for the time I had, so I didn't spend enough time at a same place to know people and their culture. Usually I visit less places but try to meet and live a bit more with locals. Next time I will be going to this part of world, I will focus more on people ;)

Ecuador was awesome... a country the size of the state of nevada with easy access to the andes mountains, amazon jungle, coastal communities, and vibrant cities. The official currency of the country is the american dollar and the transportation system is easy and very affordable. To top it off everyone is hospitable and willing to help.

welllll..we made it! After an initial feeling of culture
shock, Quito has grown on me over the course of the day. Our hostel is
nice and clean, but perhaps on the noisiest street in the city. Not
really, but it´s hard to believe that buses and trucks go on the little
street where it´s located…

It´s been nearly 2 weeks of working at the Hospitals here in Quito. First, Alison and i worked at the ER all last week at Eugenio Espejo. I´ve seen so much blood, vomit, secretion, urine, stomach fluids and guts that i enjoy the thrill of the job even more.
