Quito is a wonderful colonial city.. ans it's perfectly located to do completely different things in Ecuador.. With max one day trips, you can visit heart of the jungle, or beautiful beaches, or thermal complexes, or beautiful glaciers on top of the mountains, or indigenous villages, or adventure sport centers like rafting or skydiving, or active volcanoes with beautiful crater lakes.. Oh don't forget to visit The Middle of The World.. Mitad del Mundo :))

I spent a couple of days this past weekend in Quito with some friends. Our first outing was to the Teleferiq, a gondola lift where you can basically see all of Quito. It gets chilly up there, so if you're planning to go, make sure you bring a coat or a good sweater. If you're into biking, then…

Hiking on Mt. Pichincha

While working in Quito for a month, we decided to go hiking up on Mt. Pichincha. The mountain is so close, its pretty much apart of the city and it tops out at around 17,000ft. The cab was about 10 minutes. I had a blast. It was my first time doing any real hiking so I was instantly out of breath. …

The day came to pick up the rental car.  I was excited as well as a little nervous.  I was nervous because, for the most part, I knew what the roads were like in Ecuador and it’s not something to look forward to.  Not only would this be an opportunity to take Dirk to the beach,…
