Queretaro Overview

Santiago de Queretaro or Queretaro was first inhabited by the Otomi Indians, then was incorporated into the Aztec empire in 1446. The Spanish conquered the Aztec's in 1531.

The city centre is a Unesco world heritage site. The downtown has excelent areas for walking with many pedestrian friendly streets and plazas to shop in.

The conspiracy of 1810 that led to the revolution against Spain was planned here. During the Mexican War of 1847 with the United States, the city became the Capital of Mexico. The execution of Emporer Maximilan, the first singing of the Mexican National Anthem and the signing of the Mexican Constitution also happened here.

Also known as the safest city in Mexico. No matter what the hour you will always see people walking the streets day or night.
