Overlooked beautiful nature site. Dec 30, 2012
This marsh, which is not just marsh is overlooked completely by tourist and even by locals. It is named after the Senecan Indian Queen Catharine. Almost nobody I know has ever walked through here. Depending on the time of year you'll see many various birds, fish in the streams and swamp or landlocked pools. You are almost certain to see white tail deer ,rabbits and more. The trails are poorly maintained but flat and general dry. If you visit Watkins Glen or Montour Falls and have extra time to take a walk it is well worth it. The best access is from the Montour Falls side. I will try and get a gps map to it. The Catharine valley trail now walks between towns on the opposite side closest to the road, pretty but not nearly as nice as getting out in the marsh. If you visit and I am home, not traveling I will gladly show you around there!
