Quan Ju De (Peking Duck) Reviews

During our stay in Beijing, we encountered few restaurants that we could recommend! To be honest we were somewhat disappointed with the quality of food and at times alarmed at the hygeine standards. However, Quan Ju De was an exception and somewhere we would visit again. There are several branches of this restaurant scattered throughout the city and the one we visited is in Wangfujing.
If you have not had the experience of Peking Duck, you may not know how this dish is to be eaten. It is not just taken off a plate and scooped into the mouth – it has a process of sorts. Along with the carved duck, the server will bring out flat, tortilla-like wrappers, a dark-brown sauce made from the soy of fermented wheat flour, and long, thinly-sliced shallots and cucumbers. To prepare: First, take a bit of the sauce/paste and place it on a flat, open wrap. Add the roasted duck slices, shallots, and cucumbers, roll it all together, and enjoy!

There are many western franchised eateries in Beijing, which after a few days of Chinese food, you may be tempted by. They have the added advantage of western hygeine standards and often have western type toilets. Whilst we enjoy Chinese food, by the end of our stay, we were craving some familiar fare!!

Our flight from HK to Beijing arrived at about 11:00PM Monday night and Beijing Airport was a madhouse.  It took us three weeks to catch on to asking the concierge at the prior hotel to write the name, address, and phone number of the next…… sorry, but you're just not worth $100 an hour
