Qawra Palace Hotel Reviews
Your own Palace suite for little money :) Mar 17, 2012
I choose this hotel because of a good review from Jeminigirl, who visited this hotel in 2009.
Our room was standard size, beds have spring-mattresses (only really soft between the springs) but comfy enoughh for a week.
The bathroom is big enough. No centralized ventilation (fan made some noise)
Balcony with sea-view. (and street sounds of-course)
The doors to the rooms might be better, noise easily comes in from the hall. But room to room noises I have not heard.
Check-in went smooth, but a bit of advice would have prevented me from walking up and down:
- TV remote (not in room, can have in exchange for 10 Euros bail)
- Safe: can hire key
- Internet: Wireless or PC in lounge area charged. (note: forget speed on Malta :)
The TV comes with a free hotel-movie channel (2 movies a day) but an hotel information channel is dearly missed.
(now we didn't come to watch TV, but after a day of sight seeing, a few minutes news would be nice: BBC world news/ Euronews/ Eurosport/ 10 x TVMalta (with once and awhile English programs/ 8 x Italian channels / VOX German, but who cares :)
Location: Great! On the route of hop-on-hop-off Sight seeing bus, 6 local bus-lines, 20 min by car to ferry, less than 45 minutes from airport -and that only because of major roadworks-
Parking: the hotel has no parking space, but further on the road will be enough space, or better go up the lane and drive down to the water, there is always room enough.
Look at Goolgle streetview for more clues.
A special word about the staff:
In another review they were dismissed as rude.
The reception team was helpful, friendly service oriented, patient, etc, etc.
House keeping was friendly, breakfast room personnel courteous.
Thumbs up for the staff!
Next time Malta, same hotel, definitely.

Mixed Feelings Nov 01, 2011
I had very mixed feelings about this hotel. The location was fantastic - close to the bus station, a cheap convenience shop attached at the side, and a gorgeous view of the sea. I didn't like the thought of paying to have tea & coffee in my room (something you kind of expect in a 4* hotel), so we bought a travel kettle and some stuff to make our own drinks. The room was a good size, and cleaned every day. The hotel cafe was lovely, and they served beautiful cakes - but the hotel restaurant was horrible. There wasn't much I liked on the buffet-style service, and the staff really were very rude. Tables weren't cleaned inbetween guests, and you were pretty much left to your own devices. The wifi computers in the lobby kept crashing, and after paying so many times, you kinda give up! In summary, great location, but wouldn't go back.

Good value for money Jul 25, 2009
I have stayed in this hotel twice now and will be using it again next summer. Prior to our first trip to Malta we had heard mixed reviews about this hotel, but after spending a week here really wonder what people expect for their money. It is classed as a 4* hotel but by English standards I would say it was more like a 3*. The hotel is set on the seafront, directly looking over Salina Bay, it also has it's own little private beach area which is beneficial in the height of summer when it is busy around the pool areas. (Both pools are saltwater). It is about approx 10mins from Buggibba down the promenade and is also extremely close to the bus terminal with bus services all over the island. (Dearest fare we paid was 1.16 euros) Staff are wonderful and check-in on both occasions has been extremely quick. The lifts in the hotel could do with modernising as they are extremley slow, we found it quicker to walk the seven flights of stairs rather than hang around. The rooms are pretty small but sufficient in what they provide. The balconies at the rear of the hotel overlook a courtyard and are quite close together, so would recommend that if you don't want to be in touching distance of the next balcony pay for a sea view room at the front of the hotel. Beds are pretty basic, as was the bedroom furniture, but facilities are more than adequate, bathroom again small with bath and shower but again more than adequate. Rooms also have a small fridge, air conditioning units are a bit on the noisey side if you are a light sleeper. Maid service is excellent, clean towels and beds made on a daily basis. The restaurant is nice with ample choices for breakfasts - cereals, full english, hams, cheeses etc, Evening meals consist of 2/3 meat/fish choices, with selection of vegetables and potatoes, though if vegetarian your only option would be pasta or salads. Dessert choices again wide selection. Some waiting on staff could be a little on the grumpy side if you sat in the wrong allocated area for dining. Also drinks have to be purchased seperately from the bar adjacent to the restaurant. Beautiful coffee shop next door serves the most wonderful selection of cakes...you have been warned, we spent every afternoon in there..... :o)
UPDATE - September 2011
Given that I was travelling with my sister and 9mth old niece this time we were given a family room on the ground floor.
The room was huge, there were four single beds and a cot, two large double wardrobes, two bedside cabinets and a large dressing table, incorporating more drawers and a small fridge. There was also a small table and two chairs in the corner of the room. In addition to this there was a balcony with two chairs overlooking the courtyard. The family room was great value for money.
