Pyramid Club New York Reviews
Pyramid Club (mainly gay bar and 80s music) Aug 23, 2009
Last night was the bachelorette party, and for one of the stops, one of the other bridesmaids, well brides' man, suggested we stop at Pyramid Club, one of his local haunts. Pyramid Club is apparently well known as a gay bar which plays mainly 80s music and techno music. Bridesman said it used to be an incredibly popular and more stylish but now is more of a cheesy yet fun divey spot.
Before entering, there is an old velvet rope, and there was a small line to go in, and a bouncer checking ID. Right next to the door, there is another person to collect the $8 USD entrance fee.
Entering can be difficult, it still is very popular and the walkway to the left of the bar was lined with lots of men stopping to check each other out and everyone entering. It was very busy on and off on Friday night.
In the back, past the bar, is a very dark room, very minimal club lighting, pretty much near blacked out. The DJ was playing 80s Madonna, ABBA, which I heart, songs from the Whiz, and Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" among other recognisable, nostalgic 80s mainstays. We sang, or ahem, screamed along the words to the songs. Everyone had a lot of energy and uninhibited.
As it was a bachelorette party, we each took turn taking dares, the bride getting the bulk of the dares, and thus [slight] humiliation. The mainly gay male crowd graciously partook in our silly games, such as receiving kisses from the girls, being pulled for dances, and other more blatant forms of physical sexual harassment...just kidding...well...
The drinks were served in plastic cups, on the cheaper side, for the area, around $3+ for a PBR, Pabst Blue Ribbon, (how hipster of me), and around $6-10 for most drinks.
For a silly fun night out singing along to ABBA with some of the sweetest guys ever, drop by Pyramid Club.
