Putaruru Vacation Guide
Putaruru is a famous place but you probably wouldn't recognise the name at all.
Sitting quietly on State Highway One, in the heart of the South Waikato (10 minutes drive South of Tirau and 10 minutes North of Tokoroa) Putaruru is home of the famous "Blue Spring" where about 75% of New Zealand's bottled water flows from the ground.
Check the label of your favourite drop and you'll likely see the name Putaruru there.
In the past water from the Blue Spring won an award for being best in the world.
Just at the Northern entrance to the town is Whites Road. Travel East along here for about 3 minutes and on your right you'll find the carpark at the beginning of the River Trail where you can enjoy a walk along the crystal clear stream as it winds through the farmland.
Water is not Putaruru's sole claim to fame. In the town center the footpaths feature interesting mosaics.
A few minutes South (towards Tokoroa) is the Putaruru Timber Museum, where you can wander among the buildings and see forestry machinery and a local artist turning beautiful pieces on his wood lathe.

Putaruru is the home of the world famous (and global award winning) Blue Spring. I've updated the destination with this info so I won't repeat it here, but being a hop, skip, and jump from Tokoroa I was always popping up here for one reason or another -or passing through it on my way North on…
