Dont bother with the Guides to Brahma temple or the lake , they will try to railroad you into thier own rituals and which they expect paying hansomely for .

Dont waste your time or money .They are about as holy/spiritual as my backside , although they will act otherwise .Its the good old Indian swindle .

the ticket guys who take your money as u enter town (by car) are all on the same team and will 'weigh' you up.I suspect they are targetting

westerners and non-Indians .

take my advice and refuse the tilak/flower etc , because you will be pressurized into paying well over the top (as much as they can get from you)

I wanted to checkout the lake , it was large and had steps leading down to it from the town area , we shook off the spivs and tried to get down to it further around (i did see a dead fish floating on the surface)

but when we did someone else came out making some point , we know about removing our shoes , and presumed that they were after money again so we left it out .In fairness , many of them are poor and white tourists stand out as a source of income . I was left with the impression that this was not a spritual area (the lake) but was used as such by those around in order to make money. I would have liked just to sit for 30 mins and look across the water , but was not prepared to pay again for that .

The town itself is interesting , with some good cafes and lots of meditation places .We spoke to some Brits who were staying in a double room with bathroom for only about £2.5 pernight .There were quite a few european travellers there and we wished we had time to stay longer .This was march 2007.We had a coffee at the Pink Floyd cafe

The town is a kind of Hippy place and worth visiting .
