A Hostel LP won't tell you about! Jul 12, 2009
Lonely Planet (A Budget Backpackers Guide to SE Asia) seems to have a few selective omissions, especially when it comes to Borneo.
Here is a case in point. This is the only hostel in BSB and is by far the cheapest place to stay (as far as I know), but it isn't in the book. It's clean, very safe, and absolutely quiet. There are four beds per room, and about 16-20 room available. I doubt its ever been full. It is a touch outside the main city, but given that BSB is such a small place anyway, you can get anywhere you wish to with a 10 minute walk. It's very close to the Royal Regalia Museum as well and that's certainly worth an hour of your time. The showers and sinks have a cold tap and an oil tap, but no hot water unfortunately. Rooms are a/c and comfortable enough for a good nights sleep. Part of the Helping SE Asia out of the Recession. March '09' - Aug '09' - LETS ALL GO TUBING!!! travel blog |

In Bandar Seri Begawan, we stayed at the Pusat Belia or Youth Centre. It was basic but the swimming pool was good. All was fine until the aircon packed up at night. It could have been a lot worse ...
