Pura Vida Hostel May 28, 2017
Pura Vida Hostel in Liberia is a total dump. Sometimes some people have idea to start the business that does not fit them, and they are not aware of what they are to do in order for that business to work. It is probably the part of the other hostel that is located down the street. The signs around the bus terminal show direction to both hostels together…

Location is very good. It is very close to both major bus terminals in town and only few blocks away from the highway where you can also find some transportation. Airport is a bit further away but there is constant and fast bus service to it. Local market is only 100 meters away and large super markets are all around the town. If you are into US fast food, you will be able to find all of junk food restaurants in this town.

Hostel is located in the one floor residency that is divided in many smaller rooms. Every room has a tiny restroom (ours was maybe 2m square) but you should be able to maneuver yourself. There is no hot water in the shower and toilet paper should be discarded in the bin next to the toilet, but aside of that restroom is clean and usable. There is no other restroom in the common areas so you’ll have to wait for your dedicated place…

Dorm room was clean. Very little inside, just double beds and few fans. There are no nets on the windows so mosquitos are enjoying our stay. It is like buffet for bugs, but the beds were clean. The hostel is right on the frequent traffic road, so noise does not stop, just goes lower a bit… You’ll probably get awake from the truck noise sometimes around 5am.

There is a kitchen area with the refrigerator and few tables. They also have old TV hanging from the ceiling if you are into Latino soap operas. Owners have cat and the dog. Cat bites and the dog barks. Happy family.

You can get organized tours from the hostel to surrounding national parks and to the beaches. You could also score transportation by yourself. Rarely someone stays in Liberia. It is more used as a transportation hub or stop over. It is much nicer to stay on one of the fantastic beaches that are close by. But, the nature around Liberia has lots to show. There are hot water springs, mud pools, waterfalls, jungle… Little bit for everyone, you just need to be here at the right season and to have a bit extra time.

Hostel staff is a lady and her son. The son is not really interested much in the hostel business but he would open the doors sometimes (the doors need to be buzzed by the reception buzzer, which is sometimes annoying because they are very slow). Lady of the house is very nice, good energy.

All in all I would not go to this place again, not consider it staying in Liberia. There are much better places to stop all around this area.

Unfortunately this place doesn't look or sounds like such a great place to experience Pura Vida in Costa Rica, LOL!
