Pura Vida Hostel Tamarindo Costa Rica Reviews
Best and most affordable hostel in Tamarindo Costa Rica Aug 28, 2010
We got off the bus and stumbled upon amazing Pura Vida hostel in Tamarindo by luck, after walking up hostel row and checking out other sketchy places Pura Vida was head and shoulders above the rest! We had only planned to stay 2 nights in very touristy Tamarindo but after our great experience at this hostel we eventually pulled ourselves away after 7 nights! After traveling through Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua "Pura Vida" was hands down the best hostel on our trip. It is by far the cleanest, cheapest and most comfortable hostel from our travels.
This cozy, open tranquil hostel provides a great place to lounge and get to know other travelers by day. The rancho area is full of rocking chairs overlooking lovely tropical garden with hammocks to chill in. We in deed met some of the most amazing, fun and friendly backpackers here AND by night it has a family environment thanks to Miriam who runs the place, so everyone goes out with each other and has a great time. (Not to mention the advantages that the power in numbers provides when traveling)
Our private room was very cozy, clean with comfy mattresses and had lovely private bath. The sheets were clean and we got fresh towels which is a luxury in hostels. To save money we cooked our meals daily and the hostel has 2 full kitchens with 2 large fridges, completely and fully stacked with spices, sugar, flower, hot water kettle, microwave and all utensils for cooking and eating we could ever need! (To be honest this kitchen was better stocked then my own!)
Miriam is amazing and will bend over backward to accommodate. As a former backpacker herself she understand the needs of backpackers and created books of bus schedules, restaurant menus, has tons of games, cards, pool table, ping pong table, dart board, book exchange, umbrellas for rain, surf boards, bikes, laundry...She is very helpful and has tons of information and insights. So make sure to ask her anything!
All in all Pura Vida is a must stay in Tamarindo, and worth making a trip there for.
