Famous Pupusas from El Salvador Apr 13, 2011
Pupusas might be considered the national dish of El Salvador. They are mini stuffed-pancakes made of corn and can be eaten for breakfast lunch or dinner.

You order them with different fillings (e.g. frijoles (beans), queso (cheese), pollo (chicken), carne (meat), pumpkin). Don't forget to put pickled/marinated condiments on top such as cabbage. Often the shredded topping might be referred to as "curtido".

Tip: Don't be afraid of stopping at the road-side Pupuserías. Try a pupusa with "loroco" which is a central american native plant. The flower of the loroco plant is used as flavoring and is delicious and unique.

I love pupusas. For whatever reason though I crave them during the December holidays. But that is just me.

Sounds interesting? Are these similar to the venezuelan "arepas"?
