Southernmost Bakery in the U.S.A! Jun 28, 2009
I wanted a cup of coffee so we stopped at the Punalu'u based on the recommendation of a road side vendor. She said Don't Miss It! .... It was good advice!
The Bakery has sweets such as turnovers, cookies, banana bread and other pastries. I got a coconut turnover. While I was eating it I was reminded of the flavor and texture of Mounds candy bar.... Not the chocolate...the coconut inside. It was so good. The bakery had sandwiches of any kind ... made fresh on the spot. They have fruit salads and ice cream. Valerie (my sister) got coffee ice cream. She said it was smooth and had good flavor. We all got coffee. It was fresh and robust. It was Kona coffee with a good rich flavor. I bought a loaf of King Hawaiian bread with macadamia nut for $3.89. Well worth the price for this delicious round loaf. The shop also had a very nice gift area. The prices were mid range and the items were unique. The restrooms were clean and easy to find. The outside seating was either open air or gazebo setting. We sat at the table and saw there was a botanical garden trail. We walked around after we ate. Valerie found 3 new birds that were listed in her bird book... She was happy. I mostly photographed flowers. All of the different flowers were labled and it was nice to see kinds I am unfamiliar with. Near the gazebo was a huge painting that explained te luau's traditions, participants, foods and area. We liked this lovely little place. If you are in the area ... Don't miss it... If only to take a break and stroll in their beautifully landscaped tropical gardens.... |
