Pumpkin Hill Utila Reviews
360 View of Utila Jan 08, 2012
Utila is a small island and there is no real "tourist attractions" and that is why I like it. On the north shore of the island there is a extinct volcano cone called Pumpkin Hill. Walk from the city to the hill is fairly easy and it will take you no more than 1:30h to walk there.
Volcano is only around 80m high, and it is easy feat for any age or built, and as a highest point on the island allows beautiful views of lust mangrove swamp, savanna, wavy north shore, Utila city and airport.
Last time I went there someone closed the path with barb wire, but do not make anyone stop you, and just go under it hehehe.
Top of the hill has a small flat area where you can sit and enjoy your time, or you could walk a bit longer on the top of the crater. Path ends at the old lighthouse and it goes through the lush vegetation. Locals told me that there are few caves on the crater wall and that there is lots of baths inhabiting them.
One of these days, I'll venture that way and write review about it :)
