A great place to meet! Oct 11, 2014
I met with a fellow TBer today at Pumpernickel. I loved their approach. They greeted me in English first, but when I answered in Nepali, graciously switched and didn't mind my attempts to order everything in Nepali only. It's funny, but as soon as someone realizes that you are trying to speak their language, they start to speak a bit faster... but crisis averted, I received the tea and croissant I ordered in perfect order :-)

I like this restaurant because there are plenty of seats, not crowded and nice ambiance. You order up front so that there is no one constantly coming around asking if you want something from the menu -- this is a nice change.

The only reason they lost a star is somewhere while I was talking with Toby the snatched away my ciya... and I wasn't quite finished with it yet. Very quick to clear the tables.

I will come back, and guard my ciya like a hawk next time ;-)

Best place in Kathmandu for breakfast Apr 26, 2011
It's impossible not to recommend Pumpernickel Bakery to everyone visiting Kathmandu. After living for six months without a decent breakfast in Bangladesh, it felt like entering haven. Real and very tasty bread, great coffee, fresh juices, fruit curd. What more do you need? It's been our pick for breakfast every single day we spent in Kathmandu.

The restaurant itself looks very clean, there will be around twenty tables to seat people. Part of it inside, part of it outside. If they could get rid of the generator, which is a little bit loud, I wouldn't have left this place.

It's not the cheapest place to eat but for 400 / 500 Nepali roepie you will have a breakfast that gets you through the day. Maybe even two days.

Fresh and healthy Sep 16, 2010
Good morning, this is breakfast time. I have landed at Pumpernickel Bakery- Thamel, after visited to the Monkey temple. This is a place I use to go if its happen to be at Thamel in the morning. Its very neat and clean, nice sunny garden, fresh juices and bakery, great coffee etc yet still very resonable price. Staffs are gentle and friendly. This Bakery cum resturant is located at very centre of Thamel - the tourist hub of Kathmandu and at the middle of approx 200 hotels and guest houses crowd. Sittings is quite enough for 100 with in and out door. I have had fresh fruit juice that just squeezed and cooked to order banana pancake so delicious with that himalayan honey. and ofcourse a cup of coffee to start up a day.

This is a very recommended breakfast place!!! get a nice fresh roll with egg or whatever you want inside, some salad, a fresh cinnamon roll, orange juice and just sit and relax in the nice garden.

This is just a great way to start your morning. Ask anyone in the Thamel where is...
