Great views Oct 13, 2011
The castle in Pula is situated in the heart of historic Pula, and is a short walk away from Pula’s modern city centre. After the amphitheatre, it is perhaps one of the city’s more historic sites. A building has existed here since Roman times, only to be replaced by the current castle by the Venetians in the fourteenth century. The star shape of the castle and its four bastions make it a rather handsome building, and the views from the top are excellent. Apart from this, there is not much to see or do here. A part of the building contains a museum, which seems to house historical finds, possibly from archaeological excavations. However, the way that the pieces are just thrown together, without any real explanation or order is annoying. Still, if you have a spare hour or so and the weather is good, this isn’t a bad quick visit. I also think it’s a great spot for sunset!
