Pugneys Country Park Feb 11, 2017
This Country Park has two lakes which were created following open cast mining and gravel and sand quarrying. Opened in 1985 to the public, the park's lakes serve as a watersports centre with a variety of activities on offer and a nature reserve, home to a large flock of non-breeding swans.

We did a circular walk starting at Sandal Castle which included a walk round the main lake. It was a pleasant wander round and we returned to Sandal where we eventually caught our bus home.

Dragon's and Ice Cream Jan 01, 2014
Every year Pugneys holds a Dragonboat Race. Not only do you get the pleasure of the hour-long walk around the lake, maybe a nip up to the castle on the hill, but you get to grab an ice cream and sit in the sun while the Dragonboats race across the lake. There is also a watersports centre where you can do sailing and canoeing, but we tend to stick to the walking on dry land! There are areas where you can let your dog off their lead and take them in a shallow part of the lake too!
