Puerto de la Cruz Overview
Puerto de la Cruz is known as the main tourist resort of the Northern part of Tenerife. It is an old colonial town set in a beautiful countryside, that is known to many tourists, mainly from Europe. The city is surrounded by banana plantations and bordered by the sea.
Natural beaches of Puerto are small and of black volcanic sand. There’s no reef here to protect them from the tides so they are not always safe enough for swimming. To compensate that, the internationally renowned Canarian artist Cesar Manrique designed a large open-air seawater swimming pool in the town . It is a very impressive public pool located only a few meters from the sea with plenty of room to swim and sunbathe.
Plaza del Charco is the city’s heart. It is a picturesque and peaceful place to meet or to have a coffee. There’s also an excellent choice of restaurants, pubs and bars.
Puerto de la Cruz is the best known thanks to its main tourist attraction, which is Loro Parque, a spectacular zoo and park where you could easily spend an entire day.
