Taipei MRT Dec 27, 2008
The MRT is the way to go if your traveling around Taipei. Make sure and get an EASYPASS card if your plan on taking the MRT often. You'll be able to get a refund for any money left on the card. Be sure not to eat or drink while waiting on the platform or inside the subway. I didn't see the sign for this and began muching on a delightful steemed bun while wating for my lift. A Taiwanese lady was kind enough to come over and tell me that I wasn't allowed to eat there. She spoke mandarin so I couldn't understand her, but I was able to understand here jesters. She pointed to the sign which read in both madarin and english.."NO EATING, NO DRINKING, NO SMOKING" "FINE 1,500 NTD" I politelty said, "Xie, Xie (Thank you)" and I put my buns away. Keep your buns hidden as this keeps everything clean.

The public transportation is very convienient in Taipei city.
You almost can travel most of the attractions by shuttle buses of MRT (Mass rapid Transit)station.

See this site for more information: http://www.trtc.com.tw/e/index.asp

Most people in Taipei use MRT. We usually buy "easy card" which can be refilled in all convenient stores(such as 7-11, you can see them EVERYE WHRE on the street.) and can be used to take buses and paying parking fee. You need 200 NTD (or 100? I'm not sure.) deposit to buy. But it can be refund as you give the card back to MRT company. Besides, using easy card has 20% discount on each trip.

If you just stay for a few days and are afraid of getting lost ,there is one-day pass (180 NTD), three days pass (440 NTD) and five days pass (700 NTD)available.

The operation hours is 6:00- 24:00.
Although there are lots of fun at night, don't get too late!
(You're quite safe at night INSIDE the sation . But no one can insure your security when you walk outside the station. )

After dinner, we walked around Taipei a short bit and headed to the next MRT station to head back.  I never thought I would love being in a city where you take public transportation in for dinner or whatever but after seeing drivers there, this is definitely the way to go!   … Thai out in the City
