public transportation in venezia Dec 10, 2009
first of all i want to thank the travbuddies who helped and guided me for all my questions regarding venice and its transportation system.

venezia is the only city in the world for pedestrians, and a no car zone other than that if you want to move around and exploring the city you have to use the water transport system.

the main artery of venezia is the grand canal and it has many channels and smaller canals connecting point to point in the city.

although venice is walkable, it can get tiring in the end - there are lots of public and private transportation offered in venice for example, the vaporreto or the water bus, the traditional gondola and the water taxis.

the most expensive is the gondola, for a 30 minute ride it will cost from 80-100 euros but you can split them if you are 4 people.

next comes the water taxis that ranges 40-150 euros.

the cheapest of all of the transportation systems (but very expensive for european standards) is the use of vaporettos or water buses.

for one stop - it will cost 6.50 euros

10 hour pass cost - 16 euros

for 24 hour pass - 18 euros

the pass can also be used going to many islands in venezia - isola di san giorgio maggiore, lido, murano, burano, san michele etc. the company that offers this pass is ACTV (Azienda del Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano or Venice Public Transport Company)

if you want to save money, just walk around venice and get lost in its beauty, but the advantage of buying passes is that you can explore more specially the smaller islands of this spectacular city!
