After a most hearty and excellent breakfast at the hotel, Lesley and I took ourselves off to one of Brussels' three main train stations and hopped on the first departure for Brugge. Again, we couldn't really figure out the ticketing system, so we just got on board and figured we'd pay the conductor the €12 during the journey (turned out we didn't have to as no one came around to check). The trip itself was a pleasant enough 50 mins or so and we were soon in Brugge, following the crowds (and...

I have now been working for more than 2 years in this lovely city of Brussels. The last 9 month I had the fortune of living here full time. I have become to understand why expats dont wanna leave again.
One of my goals here is to visit all large cities in Belgium and afterwards know a lot about Belgium.
Living in the heart of Europe also gives me the possibility to visit many of the larger cities in the middle of Europe by car or by plane. The years I am here I will try to see a lot.

Diest is a small city and municipality located in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant. It's about 35 minutes from Brussels and you can get there easily by train or bus. It has about 20000 inhabitants and has more monuments per square kilometer than any other Belgian city. It is a historic town with a lot of ancient buildings. For instance, the beguinage, is one of the monuments on the World Heritage List of the UNESCO. The little houses were built in the 17th and 18th century and the chur...

this city is soo sweet. It seemed to be that the time stopped here. It looks like a fairy tale old city.
Right now I was in the train in my way to Brugge. I have heard so many nice things about that city that I HAVE TO visit it. Because once I took the wrong train, I decided to make sure and ask a guy if this one was the right train. The man was Irish and noticed I wasn’t local – not difficult to see, hahaha. He asked me where I was from, when I said Peru, he became even friendlie...

Taken from my physical journal..Bruges, been interesting. How many places on earth do you meet people who know where Seattle is based on the musical stylings of Sir Mix A'Lot. As Conan O'Brien once remarked, "if our show can't be entertaining, at least it can teach americans geography". This, of course, being during his trip to finland where the president of the country met with him to thank him for his interest and for .. of course, teaching americans about where the...

Day 19:
Dinant – Deurne
131.9 kms
This day was the day of saying goodbye. After we had cycled four days together we had to say goodbye to Hans, Angelique, Johan and Sonja. They left the route and wanted to cycle to Brussels and after this back to their home. There was a big click with this nice family and to say good-bye to them was difficult.
We had to wait till nine o’clock, because we had ordered bread at the reception. After the goodbye we didn’t think that we would see...

When I woke up I had a shower and then went downstairs to the bar for free breakfast which wasn't really that great lol. Oh well after we went to the grocery store down the road and got some real food hehe. We spent the day with Nikki and Yo just exploring Brugge. We went to the square and got some pics with the big church and the statue and stuff. We pretty much just wandered around all day...I had to go to the bathroom at one point and I came across my first pay-to-pee toilet so that sucked...

Day trip to Brugge, Belgium. Brugge is known for its lace making. In summer you can watch ladies make lace on the sidewalks. You can take boat rides in the canals or a horse carriage ride through the city.

Waterloo is located in the Brabant region in Belgium. There are several things from the "Battle of Waterloo" which took place June 18th, 1815, between the First French Empire (of Napoleon Bonaparte) and the Alliance of the Seventh Coalition. On a hill is a statue of a lion ("La Butte du Lion") which can be viewed up close if you are willing to climb 226 stairs, on the bottom of the hill is a little museum, and there is a tour through the old battlefields, where they'll show several things fro...

An hour north of Brussels (by train, of course) is a true gem of Europe. Brugge is so pleasant and quaint with its cobblestone streets and old Europe feel. It's what you think a European town should be. It has a quaint town center with an open market selling everything from fresh flowers to fresh fruits to fresh meats and cheeses. We just spent a couple of hours meandering from town center back to the train station (we had taken a bus to the town center). We had ...

We came to Brugge when it was quite late, about 6 p.m.The first thing we saw was a big square with modern fontain and a lot of seaguls. Good start, isn't it? ;)Then we were walking in the labirint of crowded streets and finaly reached the central square near the hotel de ville. The bilding around that place are very beautiful and full of colours. Interesting unforgetable architecture is a sighn of Brugge. And to say more we were lucky to see the test-session of Brugge orchestre. Big number of...

Within five minutes of writing my sign I was sitting in the back of an empty white van, on a normal table chair, with nothing resembling a seatbelt, and trying to communicate with my first ever hitch hiking drivers. The big father driving, mother in the passenger seat, and three children in between. I asked if they speak French because I always presume that foreigners in Belgium will speak French before any other language, even though I don't speak it and I've learnt Dutch here, and French th...

In March I and my daughter had a trip to Brussels. At first day we walked around Brussels. At second day we were in Amsterdam. We were in history museum and Van Gogh museum. My daughter liked grass lawn near Van Gogh`s museum. At third day we went to Paris. We visited several old cathedrals. They were wonderful. On last day we traveled in Brugge.
