It´s weekend again and time to relax a bit. Perfect time to go to Baños that had been recommended by several travellers. It immediately hits you as a place you´ll be sad to leave. Just 12000 residents sitting in a lush valley undernreath cascading waterfalls, 1000m below between parallel lines of mountains including the impressive active Volcan Tungurahua give it a sheltered warm climate. Named after the thermal baths heated from the volcano, it is the Cairns of Ecu...

Ecuador is an amazingly diverse country with virgin rainforest, snowpeak volcanoes, beaches, typical indigenous villages and of course the unique Galapagos Islands. Mountains full with cloudforest en waterfalls. Incredible views in the Andes and of course mi lindo Quito, a great city that has captured my heart. Ecuador for me is like coming home after living there for half a year. Adoro y amo a este país

This is Phil, and I'm back on the road. I plan on visiting Ecuador, Peru, a tiny bit of Brazil, and then Colombia over 24 days. I've got no real plans, but I do want to visit the Amazon and do a cruise on the river. The Galapagos would be nice, but it's a very expensive destination from what I hear, so maybe not. I fly home from Medellin, Colombia on February 8th, so it's good fun until then!

Got up a little earlier than usual this morning so we could walk up to the Statue of the Virgin. Was a good steep climb up the hill (and a very very windy one at that also)! With hearts pumping we could admire the view,... long enough to get sick of the sand and dust swept into our faces and lunch to decide to head back. We also met a dead scorpion on the way down aswell... rather pleasant!
The plan was to visit the hot pools which is primarily what Banos is famous for (hence Banos means bat...

Arrived in Banos for a late lunch - yummy brownies! Then familiarised ourself with the town before heading back to the hotel to make ourselves pretty for a night out on the town. Bridget made herself useful training the bar staff to make Long Island Iced Tea cocktails despite the shortage of most of the necessary ingredients. There was drinking, dancing and stuff. Enough said.
The next day was very, very slow. Low quality alcohol plus altitude is not a good combination.
Sunday morning was a...

Los Angeles, CA to Quito, Ecuador. Stayed in Ecuador for one month going from Quito, to Tena/Misahualli in the Amazon, to Guayaquil on the coast, to Salinas, to the surf town of Montanita, back to Guayaquil to fly to the Galapagos Islands. We saw Isla Santa Cruz and Isla Isabella...truly an amazing place. Returned to Quito after 8 days in the Galapagos and then hopped a bus to Otavalo for the famous Saturday market. Ecuador is an amazingly diverse country and more people should travel there!

From Quito, to Banos and then surfing on the Pacific! Ecuador uses the US $, and for less than 300 you can jump off bridges, rappel off waterfalls, learn to surf, eat like a king.....the list goes on. The most amazing trip ever!
