If you want a true cultural experience of the happiness that many South
Africans have for life you must ride a commuter train in the economy
section of course. The commuters were singing as I was traveling to
the beach for the day! How many large metro areas in the United States
have singing commuters!

After all, I did not need an alarm clock at all. In the room next to me, someone was really noisy busy waken up. This was not coincidence, it was Dion. Which is a character by itself, we will see later. Taking a shower and walking relaxed to the Cape Towns University cantine, I discovered I was nevertheless relatively late. No problem, this morning there was no program, we could fill the time by ourselfs. Although most of my fellow travellers did had finished their breakfast and went dow...

Well you all heard about our trials and tribulations to leave the UK and hit Cape Town and we're extremely pleased to report that things have got considerably better since we left. After a very good 8 days of wine tasting, skinny dipping, getting blown off Table Mountain, more drinking and meeting some great people in the hostel we also did a few other things. We went to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was a prisoner and held in solitary confinement for 18 years. You get taken around th...

We spent many a summer holiday in Knysna as kids and still love visiting every couple of years as it is so beautiful, and a lifetime of exploring won't find all there is to explore.

South Africans call Cape Town "The Mother City" as it was the first
place in the country settled by Europeans. The origninal inhabitants
were the Khoisan, a group of people living in Southern Africa since the
days of the caveman, if not before.
Cape Town has a rich history as a sea port and place where cultures
from around Africa and the world have mixed for decades, beneath the
majestic backdrop of towering Table Mountain.
Day 1
I flew from Durban on cheap but inefficient Mang...

We headed into stellenbosch with high expectations after speaking to many south african travellers in Namibia and Botswana. Everyone reckoned thath this was the place to be on new years eve, rather than the usually over crowded cape town. Having left Namibia either the 29th and after crossing into SA we stopped in the town of Springbok to change some currency. There didn't appear to be anything notable about the town other than it was about the 1st place to change currency real...

Ah!

This very colorfull area is the home of what are called the Cape-Malay people. It is a very nice area but is no longer safe to walk around by yourself even in the daytime. Either have a guide from the area or view the amazing colors from the backseat of a taxi.
