Day 6 Ratnapura - Negombo
That morning I packed everything and went down for breakfast. The others were all taking their time and “enjoying their vacation”. Arrrgg. Im a very impatient person and I really couldnt wait to go and see my brother. Finally we left the place after saying goodbye to the lovely people from the hotel and exchanging e-mail adressess.

From Galle we headed to Ella. We got a bus from Galle to Matara where we changed buses. We were able to find a minibus going from there direct to Ella, in the highlands. It was a journey of several hours.
By the time we arrived in Ella the weather had taken a turn for the worse, and there was a torrential downpour. We got very wet searching for somewhere to stay in Ella, but eventually found a room for 500 rupees. There seemed to be a great variation in the prices that people were quoting us…

A sacred pilgrimage site for 22 centuries, this cave monastery, with its five sanctuaries, is the largest, best-preserved cave-temple complex in Sri Lanka. The Buddhist mural paintings (covering an area of 2,100 sq. m) are of particular importance, as are the 157 statues.

OK, we totally spoiled ourselves in the first year we were together - 5 trips abroad, and a few weekends at home too!
Three days after my 23rd birthday in March 2005, Mark was admitted to hospital because he was having major problems with his right elbow. Over three days it went from sore to unmoveable, and the consultant we saw thought he had septic arthritis which could lead to septicaemia, so he was admitted to hospital for 9 days in case he got seriously ill.
