It's a little embarassing to admit that the first time I heard of Cabilao was through a German friend, who actually succeeded in inviting me to join him to this unheard of (for me, at least) paradise island on a plan-as-you-get-there weekend holiday. Moving north we reached the town of Bilar. A forestation project to protect the landslide areas was built here in 1958. The Government, several schools and other organizations took part in the project, and the Bilar Man-Made Forest was born! It boosts of trees cultured in around 3,000 hectares of land. Initially, they were monocultured (Mahogany Trees) but later decided against it, 'cause the birds didn't like the fruit, for reasons I still don't know. Perhaps it did not taste sweet.
