Getting There!

This was purely an opportunity of chance. We had changed banks for our business and as part of that we automatically received free tickets for the ING Formula 1 race in Belgium. The ING Bank are actually sponsors of this race and also sponsor one of the cars. The first we knew about all this was when the bank rang us saying we had won a prize to have free tickets to the VIP tent at the race. The tickets were for a special parking section nearby the race course and entry to the VIP tent...

WW 1 Forts defending Liege

The plan was to visit Fort Lancing first.  We heard this is the Fort the Germans used the “big Bertha” 420mm howitzer.  We get there early Sunday morning and we find out it doesn’t open until 1400.   Luckily I brought my ww 1 battlefield guide and a gps system.  We then decided to go to Fort Flamelle.  We get there and of course it is only open on Saturdays.  We did get to walk up and down the front of it though.  I got a couple pictures. &nb...

Today I went to Liége. Liége is situated 90 km east of Brussels. The city i fairly large and the second largest  french speaking city in Belgium. Liegé is the pricipal economic and cultural centre of Wallonia. There are more than 470.000 inhabitants and today I think half of them were at the same market as I was. Liége is also called the daughter of the Meuse river or "La cité ardenté" (the fiery city). I remember coming in this city many years ago as one of my first stops o...

Formula One Spa-Francorchamps

Since I was always a Formula One fan I really wanted to visit a F1 Grand Prix. We decided to book a bustour + camping and entrance tickets for Spa-Francorchamps. We left from Eindhoven busstation and stayed at a camping not very far from the circuit. On friday we visited the training and that was probably the best day to visit, because it was not at all crowded and you could watch all around the circuit. The most amazing thing about Spa-Francorchamps is that there is so much nature, while wal...

Day 1 in Stavelot

During the day we didn't do much, but what do you want. It is vacation (^_^) Arround 19:00 hours we went for a "walk". We went up the trail we went before (the time I almost died from having no conditie). When we were at the top, we decided to go al little farther. We went down the hill from the other side, went by a farm and came to a sign. If we would go left we would go to Stavelot (a 55 minute walk). If we would go right we could go to Croix de Remiheid (a 15 minute walk),to Aisomont (a ...

We were trying to decide between Maastricht and Liege, and we went for Liege because it seemed like a bigger city, and therefore more likely to have places that were open for us to eat at/look in etc. HOWEVER, we drove to Liege, and once we got toward the center of the city of town, we had no idea what to look for. Everything was closed, there was nowhere to park, and everything was in French. None of us know any French…haha! So, we decide to head for the Cathedral we see in the cent...
