Avoiding the waterlogging of your passport Jun 23, 2011
The most important lesson I learned when I was traveling was to keep my passport in a ziplock bag. I didn't, and I fell into a Bien Ho lake in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. Believe it or not, passports aren't particularly waterproof, and getting a new American passport in Vietnam isn't the most fun I had there (though it is significantly easier than doing a lot of other things -- like getting a sim card in India).

So yes, ziplock bags. My number 1 recommendation for travel.
