Proeflokaal De Boom

De Boom (the tree) is a beer cafe in my hometown Alkmaar. It is well known by people in the region for having slightly more different beers than other cafes. Next to the cafe is the Beer Museum. You can take a tour and a guide will show you around. The people in De Boom are very relaxed. The target audience is a bit older than at other cafes, but you'll find young beer lovers too. At De Boom, I always get the feeling that there are a lot of smart, intelligent people. There are no drunk locals and you'll hear a lot of people have serious conversations.

The personnel is very kind and friendly. They'll tell you something about the different kinds of beer and you get a free try if you want a taste. At the last thursday of the month there's a jazz evening with a live band. In the summer, there's some kind of raft on the water in front of the cafe, where you can sit in the sun, really nice. You should definitely go to De Boom if you're in Alkmaar!
