Castle's little brother May 17, 2015
Prinzenpalais was built between 1821 and 1826 as residential building for princes of the ducal family. Peter II, Grand Duke of Oldenburg, decided to use it as more private residence from 1852 until his death in 1900. During WW1 and WW2, it served as a hospital, later as a school and as an administrative building. Since 2003, the State Museum of Art and History (Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte) uses this building as art gallery with a focus on local painters and local views. Each room is dedicated to paintings of one specific painting style, e.g. historism, impressionism, expressionism, modernism.
