Princess Hostel Leidse Square Amsterdam Reviews
Great location but the facilities need some work... Mar 30, 2015
I stayed at the Princess Hostel for one night on Saturday 28 February 2015.
POSITIVES: The hostel is in a great location: very close to local restaurants, the Leidseplein and public transport. The price was reasonable and free Wi-Fi was available. The single bed was quite comfortable and the heating was VERY effective!
NOT-SO-POSITIVES: The shared bathroom comprised of a toilet/wet room in one, and when I went to use it the floor was flooded from where somebody else had showered. It wasn't particularly clean and there were no clothes hooks; the only place to put clothes/towels was either the soaked floor or on top of the communal toilet. I found fluff and hair in the 'clean' bedding.
Overall the main attractions of the Princess Hostel are its location and price (£29 per night). It's not the place to go if you're not good with stairs or have mobility issues; it's accessible by a short flight of stairs, then once you're inside all the rooms are reached by typically Dutch, steep and narrow stairs (which makes navigating them with a suitcase pretty interesting). There's no breakfast option (but plenty of places to eat a short distance away) and, as I discovered, the bathroom facilities posed some issues. If you're looking for a place to rest your head between exploring Amsterdam then this is definitely the place to go - just remember to bring waders if you need to use the toilet!
