Convenient Stopover Point with a Pub Mar 02, 2012
I have been going past this place many times over the years due to work in Singapore. Always wondering, what would it be like ? [This one is at Dunlop Street]
Finally got in there recently as a tourist and was pleasantly surprised. [revisited 5 months later, prices still same]
Cheap (S$ 22/night for a dorm bed)
Clean (you get a clean set of sheets & pillow case)
Comfy (bed does not squeak and mattress is still good)
Relaxing (the people seem to actually respect the silence in the dorm)
Amiable Staff (gave clear simple instructions without sounding like a camp commandant)
Location (next to Rochor area, in Indian quarter, near city centre)
Entertaining (live music with pub)
Value (breakfast provided + meal discounts)
Toilets (clean enough that you don't fear to use them)
Secure (lockers - bring your own lock + coin operated)
Looks like this is a place where I would come back again if I need to be near the city & travelling light. The kitchen menu looks good & have sampled some fare.
Food is good value for guests there.
50% off = stuffed customer
The atmosphere is certainly not that of a P.O.W. camp, despite the similarities in abbreviation.
Breakfast is a lively meeting for guests. The outdoor seating helps one start the day feeling enthusiastic. (vampires excluded) Ideas exchanged, attractions debated & temporary alliances made here. Some guests seem to really take a fair bit more than the allocation. Hope they don't make the place go bust though.
Haven't seen Jessica, the mascot doggie around. Hope she hasn't been served up on the menu.
*Finally updated with some photos on revisiting.

Great Hostel in An Expensive City Mar 13, 2011
Just leaving Singapore today and can't say enough about the Prince of Wales. While it isn't cheap by backpacker standards, for Singapore, I couldn't find anything cheaper. Dorm room was $21 Singapore and included breakfast... that you get to cook yourself. The place was immaculate. Primarily dorm beds with two private rooms and a shared bath as well. Dorm was divided up into three sections to offer a little privacy. Try to get the section facing the street. Definitely more private as well as a view of the street. Free wifi in the bar and two computers in the dorm for guests use. Great pub down below. A little pricey for me, but great vibe. I actually bought my beer from the 7-11 and just walked around Little India.
Staff was great. Very helpful. Location was great. Would definitely stay there again.
Not the best but fine budget accomodation May 31, 2008
Basic hostel, old beds but clean bed sheets. Showers are downstairs, you have almost to cross the pub to get it.. Showers have nothing at all to hang up your stuff. The air con is turned on only from 9:00 pm. There is a party bar where you can meet people from all over the world. Good location.
