Prepaid SIM card UK
Prepaid SIM card UK Reviews
UK prepaid SIM options Jul 05, 2014
Like most countries, there are a number of options available in the UK when it come to choosing a prepaid mobile phone SIM card. Deciding which one to purchase really depends on the type of features you're after. I'm going to provide information here mainly on the O2 network as this has been the most useful prepaid service when I've travelled to the UK. There are other networks that I know of (listed below) so you can do your own research if you like.
The O2 pay and go SIM has always been my choice because I can work the plan to suite me. There are a number of "Bolt On" options you can purchase and configure such as international calling minutes to nominated phone numbers in your home country which can save you so much money. Other "Bolt On" options can give you additional data, SMS/MMS, and cheaper call rates.
Even though O2 don't officially allow tethering, they don't block android users from enabling it. Unfortunately the tethering option on the iPhone is disabled when the SIM is in the device. Most hotels in the UK charge a lot to access WIFI so owning an android phone can have its advantages if you use a WIFI tablet or laptop when travelling. The Three network offer unlimited data for mobile prepaid SIMS, but they are quite strict when it comes to tethering and will block you from using it.
A standard top up with £10 on the O2 network, should get you a credit of £10, 1000 texts, and 500mb of data. Log onto the website to buy a "Bolt On" option or phone O2 who always seem helpful.
The O2 pay and go plans have recently changed so make sure you do your research before you go - http://www.o2.co.uk/tariffs/payandgo
Make sure you also check out the other phone companies such as Three, Vodafone, T-mobile, Orange, Virgin, EE, Tesco, and Talkmobile.
