StarHub GREEN prepaid SIM card Dec 08, 2010
After 3HK and PCCW of Hong Kong, the StarHub prepaid SIM card was my 3rd asian phone card so far.
I bought it at a StarHub store at Bugis Junction shopping mall.
The card costs $15 Sing and has a $18 value.
It's a regular size SIM card, so watch out if you have an iPhone 4.
Internet works right away with iPhones, no need for APN settings.
The network is 3G and has quite good coverage.
In order not to get your balance eaten up by internet data, you need to buy a package before surfing the net.
That's quite easy by dialing *131# and following instructions.
A 20MB package costs $2 and is valid for 24hrs from activation.
That's enough data for a day and quite cheap.
Problem is, that you only get one SMS a few hours before it expires.
So if you keep on surfing and forget about the expiration time, you get charged by kilobytes without further notice, which will eat up you card's balance very quickly!
So it might be a good idea to set an alarm for 24 hours or just charge every morning before using the internet.
For some strange reason, some random websites couldn't be opened after recharging the internet package.
I had to reset my iPhone's network settings a couple of times in order to access those websites.
There were quite a few SMS included, and after sending 5 SMS a day, you get 10 for free for that day. So no worries with cost for SMS. Talk time is also cheap.
Like most asian cards, top up at 7 eleven.
Except for the missing notification for expired internet package and the network errors, I was quite happy with that SIM card.
Maybe not highly recommended, but still recommended!
