Pratapgad Fort Mumbai Reviews
Pratapgad Fort - Majestic fort Jul 01, 2009
Height – 1080 ft
My thirst to conquer the long conquered and ruled forts is never ending. Great kings have ruled these mountains and fought battles protecting from invaders. These battle stations built high up in the mountains to take advantage over the invaders. These mountains are difficult to climb during those days but now with the increase in visitors most of the treks are laid out comfortably.
There are 300 odd forts in Maharastra, most of them are associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaja. There are few of which were supervised and built to his specifications. Pratapgad Fort is one of them built by him in the 16th century. This fort is divided into 2 levels, lower and upper. This fort is known for the famous and fiery battle between Shivaji and Afjazal Khan.
This is a magnificent fort with stunning views from the top. This fort is famous for the tomb of Afzal Khan, the temple of Goddess Bhavani, Bronze statue of Shivaji, intricate design and artwork.
This can be a nice weekend getaway. On the way you can also visit few other hill stations like Mahabaleshwar or Panchgani.
