Prague sightseeing in general Reviews
Various Prague sights Dec 31, 2010
Make the most of your time in Prague! It was our first time to this beautiful place and we only saw a small amount of the awesome things it has to offer.
We visited St Nicholas church - WOW! This took my breath away. It cost 70cz each to enter (around £2.62) but it was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen! The whole place is covered in the most beautiful paintings and sculptures that you just have to take photos to record your visit. You can go upstairs to the gallery to get a closer look at the ceilings. I promise you, you will not be disappointed! It's lovely on the outside but inside is absolutely stunning and will fill you with awe!
Prague Castle is a hike but it' worth it! St Vitus Cathedral is within the grounds. Again, so beautiful on the outside but inside - stunning! There are lots of places around the castle to visit. You do have to pay to go into certain areas.
Take the funicular railway up to Petrin to see the tower. Make sure you go to the museum in the base of the tower - it's dedicated to a guy called Jára Cimrman, a Czech genius from the turn of the 20th century. However, some say he never existed and that he was created over a bottle of vodka, they say – by Ladislav Smoljak, Jiri Sebanek and Oscar winning director Zdenek Sverak (1996 for film Kolja). They created a great myth about the perfect Czech. If you ask any Czech on the street, even a little child, they would all tell you that Cimrman existed although everyone present knows perfectly well that Jara Cimrman was never “flesh and bones” person, but nobody wants to spoil the fun! According to the museum, he was a true genius and influenced everything starting from world literature, music, art, politics, up to great inventions and discoveries. Stories about him are really funny especially because everybody knows it’s all made up. It's a fun visit! Again, there is so much to do around the tower, gardens to walk in, a magical grotto. Beautiful!
